Controversial preacher Apostle James Ng’ang’a of Neno Evangelism Ministry has hit back at Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passarisafter she called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to investigate a viral video allegedly showing him confessing to a serious crime.

The undated clip, which has been circulating widely on social media, appears to show Pastor Ng’ang’a telling his congregation that he was once part of an eight-man gang that sexually assaulted a woman many years ago.

The video has triggered public outrage and widespread debate online, with many Kenyans demanding answers from the preacher and law enforcement authorities.

Ng’ang’a’s Defiant Response

In response to Passaris’s public statement, Pastor Ng’ang’a dismissed the call for his arrest during a tiktok live.

“Mimi nishikwe? Kwani kushikwa hio ni kitu kwangu? Hata badala ya kunitumania si uniambie ni polisi gani unataka niende hio masaa ya kutishwa mimi iliisha,” he said defiantly.

The preacher appeared unbothered by the calls for investigation, insisting that he would not be intimidated or coerced into submission.

Esther Passaris Demands DCI Action

The controversy escalated after Esther Passaris publicly addressed the issue on her X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.

The lawmaker urged the DCI to investigate the authenticity of the viral video, noting the growing sophistication of digital manipulation technologies.

“In this era of AI-generated and manipulated videos, I don’t know if the clip is genuine or a deep fake; but one thing remains, it MUST be investigated,” she wrote.

Passaris emphasised that if the video is genuine, the matter should be treated not as a sermon but as a criminal confession.

She called on Pastor Ng’ang’a to surrender himself to the authorities and name his alleged accomplices to ensure justice for the survivor.

“As a man of God, if the pastor did make that confession, he should surrender himself to the police, name the eight others involved, and help deliver justice for the survivor,” she added.

Concern for the Victim

Passaris also expressed deep concern for the woman allegedly assaulted, questioning her whereabouts and well-being years after the purported crime.

“I keep wondering where the woman is today? How has her life been since that ordeal?” she asked, further praying for her and for all survivors of sexual violence.

A Call for Clarity

The circulating video has stirred intense debate across the country, with many demanding a swift and transparent investigation.

Legal experts have also weighed in, noting that if verified, the preacher’s comments could amount to a self-incriminating statement that warrants criminal scrutiny.

As of now, neither the DCI nor Pastor Ng’ang’a’s ministry has issued an official clarification about the authenticity of the clip. However, the preacher’s defiant stance has only deepened public calls for accountability and justice.
