Nigerian Grammy-winning singer and songwriter Tems has revealed that her LVI (Leading Vibes Initiative) in Kenya was inspired by the immense creative potential she sees among young women across East Africa.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Mpasho  journalist Kalondu Musyimi, Tems said her passion for the project stems from a desire to amplify overlooked talent and create more opportunities for women in the creative industry.

“Honestly, I really feel like especially in these parts of Kenya and around East Africa, there are so many talented young women that are not exactly highlighted,” Tems explained.

“I want to be part of making people see that talent and recognise how many young stars are in Kenya.”

The program, she said, is not limited to music but extends to creative fields such as visual arts, songwriting, and production  all areas where young African women have historically faced barriers to entry.

Industry analysts have praised Tems’ approach as both visionary and timely, noting that it aligns with the continent’s ongoing cultural renaissance, where women are increasingly taking centre stage in shaping Africa’s creative identity.

Building on the Success of LVI in Lagos

Tems first launched the Leading Vibes Initiative in Lagos, Nigeria, where it focused on empowering and mentoring young women in music and creative arts.

The Lagos edition included workshops, training sessions, and networking programs designed to equip participants with practical skills and industry exposure.
