Kenyan music star Bien Aime Baraza is urging his fans to embrace marriage, describing it as a space for growth and building.

Speaking just after leaving the stage during the Alusa Continual World Tour Nairobi edition, the artist reflected on the strength and longevity of his relationship with his wife, Chiki Kuruka.

Bien and Chiki have been together for 11 good years. He offered a live and firsthand look at how marriage works, emphasising that while the journey is essential, it is not always perfect.

When asked about her vital role in the world tour, Bien described her commitment simply:

“She’s been a great management. But even besides that, she’s just been support. She’s been farming.”

The artist explained that despite the intense demands of the ongoing world tour—which has recently included stops in Nairobi and Meru, and is scheduled to move on to Australia, Zambia, Rwanda, and South Africa—the couple prioritises their relationship.

Marriage Not for Fools

When asked to give a word for his wife and manager Chiki Kuruka, Bien simply stated that marriage is only a useless thing to foolish people, seemingly throwing shade at Chebet Ronoh who recently stated that marriage is for fools.

“Marriage can never excite fools. Marriage is good, people should get married. There’s growth and building together. I empathize with people who have a different mindset about marriage. But it’s a democracy everyone is allowed to say what they feel,” he stated.

Bien advised people to see life and experience about marriage from his own, firsthand.

Navigating the Journey

Bien was candid that even after 11 years, the relationship is not without its challenges. He confirmed that they fight and do have moments.

He offered clear advice on maintaining a long-lasting union, focusing on communication and external guidance.

The key to handling these moments, according to Bien, is simply honesty.

“We are not perfect and we will never be. We do have fights, moments but at the end of the day we talk, we are open about everything.”

Furthermore, the couple actively seeks wisdom from others. They rely on very good friends who act as mentors. These mentors are older people who have been married for decades.

Bien shared that his own parents provide a long-term example, having been married for 40 years. He advised people not to solely look at where successful married couples end up, but to instead focus on the process. He urged people to “appreciate the journey” of marriage.

Making Time for Romance

Bien stressed the need to carve out romantic time away from their demanding work schedules. As a couple, they must actively pull each other out of the "work bubble". They consistently ensure they make time for their relationship and go on dates.

The artist shared that the nature of their careers, which involves travelling and seeing the world together, benefits their relationship greatly. He suggested that this partnership creates an ongoing positive environment:

“It’s one long honeymoon.”
