Nairobi County Assembly Minority Leader and Waithaka MCA Antony Kiragu addressing UDA members from Kariobangi at City Hall/HANDOUTNairobi County Assembly Minority Leader and Waithaka MCA Antony Kiragu has vowed that the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) will reclaim the Kariobangi North MCA seat in the upcoming by-election.
Speaking at City Hall while hosting UDA members from Kariobangi, Kiragu emphasised the party’s commitment to regaining the seat, which he described as historically aligned with UDA.
“For the longest time, that seat has belonged to UDA, and we cannot afford to lose it again due to political mistakes that are avoidable,” said Kiragu.
“We want the people of Kariobangi to elect our candidate so they can benefit from the government’s development agenda.” he stated said.
The UDA has fronted former Kariobangi North MCA Maina Njoka as its flagbearer. Njoka is set to face stiff competition from John Kimanzi, the brother of the late Joel Munuve, who held the seat until his untimely death after serving for two years.
“As Nairobi UDA leaders, we will not take any chances this time around. The campaigns will be rigorous and strategic to secure this victory," he added.
The Kariobangi North seat is seen as a crucial political battleground in Nairobi, and the by-election is expected to draw significant attention from both the UDA and opposition camps.
Nairobi County Assembly Minority Leader and Waithaka MCA Antony Kiragu addressing UDA members from Kariobangi at City Hall/HANDOUTThe Kenya African National Union (KANU) has officially chosen Peter Kariuki Nganga as its candidate for the upcoming Kariobangi North by‑election.
The announcement was made during a press conference at the party’s Nairobi headquarters on September 9, 2025.
KANU is positioning this move as part of a broader strategy to reclaim political prominence in Nairobi and across the country, especially with eyes turned toward the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during the unveiling of Ng’ang’a, Tony Gachoka, KANU’s Nairobi gubernatorial hopeful, said party is not only focused on winning in Kariobangi North but also intends to contest robustly in other upcoming by‑elections.
Gachoka criticised the current leadership in Nairobi, citing challenges such as rising crime, the high cost of living, and perceived lack of accountability as serious concerns.
