CORRIDORS OF POWER

THE CORRIDORS ARE abuzz with whispers of a brewing love duel pitting a powerful state agency MD against a former MP. At the heart of the storm is a woman stationed in the MD’s office, now the unwilling muse of competing affections. Insiders murmur that both men are apparently eager to claim her as a second wife. The MD, though already bound to a wife in his village home, is said to be pulling all the stops to win her hand. The former MP, however—who has a child with the lady—is not backing down quietly. Word has it he is spoiling for a fight, even hatching plans to storm her office for a dramatic and potentially explosive showdown.

PRINCIPAL SECRETARIES IN a ministry are not reading from the same script any longer. Reason? A mega project they have both been so vocal about stalled midway. One blames “slow procurement”, while the other insists it’s “poor planning.” They smile in public, but behind the scenes they allegedly clash, leaving staff unsure whose instructions to follow. The powers that be, we hear, have noticed the cracks and are waiting to see who blinks first. Until then, ministry corridors are buzzing louder about their fallout, with jokes that a reshuffle might cure the impasse.

THE RECENT REVELATION of entrenched bribery in Parliament appears to have left honourable members unbothered. If anything, it has merely laid bare their soft underbelly. Word has it that members of a certain committee recently quarreled in a lounge after supposedly pocketing a “token” from a witness. Heated whispers over how to allegedly share the spoils quickly turned sour when one member, absent from the meeting, stormed in protesting that he was being shortchanged. Calm was only restored when a staffer intervened. Colleagues who later caught wind of the fracas were overheard remarking that such matters—if truly unavoidable—are better resolved away from Parliament’s walls.

A COUNTY ASSEMBLY speaker is in panic. Sleuths from an investigative agency are seeking to have him arrested and prosecuted for allegedly using forged academic papers. The man has, for years, been apparently bribing whistle blowers to avoid raising the issue. It appears that the bribes he supposedly dished out never saved the situation. A little bird aware of the matter whispers the files are ready and he is set to be summoned soon to record a statement.
