Alice Nyaguthii, a former nightlife entrepreneur, has lifted the lid on the inner workings of Nairobi's strip club scene.
In a recent interview with Kisscapadespodcast, she shared some eye-opening details, including the fact that she has entertained over 5,000 customers during her career.
Knowing the Price
For Alice, success was all about intuition. She explained that she could often size up a client the moment they walked in, instantly knowing what to charge.
"Some customers come almost daily—you already know what they want. Then there's the new ones, the ones who just stare, and you can tell they're not sure. That's when you decide, okay, this one might pay 10K."
This ability to "read the energy" was crucial for setting her rates and maximising her earnings.
The Unspoken Rules of Competition
The world of stripping isn't just about the dance; it's also about fierce competition with other dancers. Alice revealed that early in her career, she would clash with her colleagues over clients. However, she quickly learned a valuable lesson.
"It's really bad to fight for a customer. If he chooses someone else, just let him go. There's no need to force it."

Instead of fighting, she says she and other dancers would sometimes agree to split the money from a client to avoid conflict.
More Than Just a Transaction
Alice was keen to differentiate stripping from other forms of sex work. She stressed that a stripper's job is to entertain and create an experience, not just to complete a transaction.
"A stripper has to make you happy, entertain you. It's not just about standing there. It's about the vibe and the experience."
Her perspective sheds light on the often-misunderstood nature of the industry, highlighting the performance and personal connection involved.
