Renowned jazz guitarist and musician Kato Chang, known professionally as Kato Change, recently offered a revealing glimpse into his life during a rapid-fire interview.
The artist spoke candidly about his early career, financial standing, and personal aspirations during the interview with Mpasho’s Kalondu Musyimi.
Humble Beginnings and Early Success
Kato Chang's musical journey began early, with his first professional gig marking a significant milestone. He recalled starting his career as a musician.

At the tender age of 16, his talent was already evident when his band competed in a "battle of the bands" competition. Remarkably, they emerged victorious, securing a substantial prize.
"I was 16 and we won 100k," Kato Change stated, referring to 100,000 Kenyan Shillings.
A Look at His Personal Finances
The quickfire session also touched upon Kato Change's current financial situation. When asked about his M-Pesa balance, he openly shared the figure.
His current M-Pesa balance stands at 20,000 Kenyan Shillings.
The Ultimate Driving Dream
Like many, Kato Change harbours a clear vision for his dream car. He shared his ultimate automotive fantasy during the interview.
His dream car is the Ferrari F50, although he currently drives a Subaru.
Beyond the Numbers: A Glimpse into His Life
Beyond the financial and professional revelations, Kato Change shared several other personal details. His real name is Kato Change, and he is 35 years old. He stands between 5'6 and 5'7 tall. His last Google search was for a Brazilian song.
Kato Change revealed his passion for Italian food, especially cooking. His favourite dish to prepare is lasagna.
While he values music and history, he noted that sciences, particularly chemistry, were his least favourite subjects in school. He is a college dropout, having studied journalism and business. He grew up in Nairobi.
A sports enthusiast, he supports Liverpool in football but considers himself more of a basketballer. His favourite basketball team is the Cleveland Cavaliers.
He is also a loyal person in friendships and relationships. His favourite instrument is the guitar.

About his sleeping patterns, Kato Change revealed that he often wakes up between 6:00 and 8:00 AM and goes to sleep between 10:00 PM and 4:00 AM.
The first thing he does after waking up is "taking a dump and playing chess on my phone". The best advice he ever received was "to do three things a day or three things a week that your future self will thank you for".

Adding to his active schedule, Kato Change is set to perform at a significant upcoming event.
He will be featuring at Kenny G’s One Night Only Jazz event, scheduled for September 27th at KICC. He will share the stage with other talents, including Coster Ojwang.
