Neno Evangelism Centre founder Pastor James Ng’ang’a left thousands in stitches during the Rhema Feast at Uhuru Park after sharing a mix of heartfelt testimony, humour, and an unexpected confession about almost reversing his offering.

The event, held on Friday, September 5, drew massive crowds who demanded that the outspoken preacher address them. When finally handed the microphone, Ng’ang’a blended gospel with comic flair, narrating his life journey from dropping out of school to serving time in prison before finding faith.

His storytelling, peppered with humour and candid reflections, kept the audience cheering and laughing.

Reflecting on the warm reception, the preacher admitted he was astonished by the overwhelming love he received.

“I never thought Kenyans would welcome me like that. I have seen God like never before. When the camera showed me, they made a lot of noise. I thank God for Kenyans and the Gen Z,” he said.

He explained that he was initially not scheduled to speak, but the crowd began chanting his name until he was invited to the stage.

“They called me ‘Commander.’ I went to greet them, and they demanded that I sing. The crusade organiser was shocked because none of them had received even a quarter of the applause I got,” Ng’ang’a recounted as the congregation roared with laughter.

The Tithe Mishap

In one of the day’s most memorable moments, the 70-year-old preacher confessed that he almost reversed his tithe after accidentally sending KSh 40,000 instead of KSh 20,000.

“They gave a number and I sent KSh 20,000. I didn’t get an M-Pesa message, so I sent another KSh 20,000 before realising it went through twice. I wanted to ask the preacher for a refund and even show the messages,” he joked.

The crowd erupted as he revealed that it was his wife who stopped him from requesting the money back.

Ng’ang’a and the Gen Z Connection

The Rhema Feast appearance comes just weeks after Ng’ang’a’s unexpected success on TikTok. In early August, the televangelist went live on the platform for the first time, attracting over 4,000 viewers within minutes. Fans flooded his session with virtual gifts worth more than KSh 88,000 in under five minutes.

Baffled by the response, Ng’ang’a paused mid-broadcast to ask how TikTok gifting worked.

“So you people love me? Gen Z, I’ll come so you can teach me this tap-tap thing,” he remarked.

The viral moment cemented his growing appeal among younger audiences, who seem to find his unfiltered delivery and unexpected humour both entertaining and refreshing.
