Willis Raburu’s ex-wife, Marya Prude, has opened up about her difficult healing journey following her highly publicised split from the media personality.
In a candid reflection during an interview with The Wind Down, Marya thanked her parents for standing by her through one of the most painful chapters of her life. She revealed that after her marriage collapsed, she had no choice but to move back home.
“When we got separated, I moved in with my folks. I felt like my whole world was crashing, and I didn’t know who to be,” she said.
“My dad is the one who came for me in my matrimonial home. I called him and said, ‘Dad, I need you to come for me.’ He came, and it was very dramatic. He later told my mum about all the drama he witnessed that day.”
The fitness enthusiast admitted that the divorce process drained her emotionally and financially. She stayed with her parents for over a year and a half because she could not afford her own place while the case dragged through the courts.

Divorce Papers via WhatsApp
Marya recalled the moment she was formally served with divorce papers in an unusual way.
“This thing was sent on my WhatsApp, and I was like, ‘Oh.’ Then you have to acknowledge it. I knew it was coming, so I received it and sent it to my lawyer. I even texted my ex and told him, ‘I see that this is the direction you’ve decided to go, I respect it, and from now on communication will be through my lawyer.’”
Although she was expecting it, she admitted it still came as a shock.

Married Too Young
In 2022, Marya spoke openly about regretting her decision to marry at just 23 years old. Looking back, she believes she would be much further in life had she not succumbed to societal pressure.
“I woke up this morning with so much to do in my mind and I just remembered I got married at 23. I don’t know what I was thinking! I would be so far right now if I wasn’t busy serving society and other people’s expectations of me as a married woman,” she shared.
She added that she no longer views marriage as an achievement, calling it “overrated.”

A Painful Split
Marya and Willis Raburu tied the knot in May 2017 in an intimate wedding ceremony. However, their marriage faced tragedy when they lost their daughter in December 2019. By 2020, the couple had separated and later finalised their divorce.
Raburu has previously admitted that they rushed into marriage without knowing each other deeply, and that he was the one who initiated the divorce process.
“I initiated the process of divorce and all respect to her. Unfortunately, it happened. Nobody goes into a marriage with hopes to come out. It was painful, and I don’t wish it on anyone,” the TV host confessed.
Moving On
Since the split, Raburu has moved on with Ivy Namu, with whom he shares two children. Marya, on the other hand, continues to rebuild her life while embracing healing and personal growth.
Her latest reflections show that although divorce was difficult, she is now at peace with the choices that shaped her journey.
