VJ Patelo, real name Stanley, has become the epicentre of online discussion following his unconventional wedding to Diana on Saturday, 26 July.
The ceremony, held at Naiposha in Tigoni, Kiambu County, quickly became a sensation, noted for its colourful characters, relaxed atmosphere, and a series of eyebrow-raising moments that defied traditional expectations.
An Unconventional Celebration Along Limuru Road
The wedding, which took place along Limuru Road, was anything but traditional. It notably lacked bridesmaids, a DJ, and formal speeches.
Instead, it featured a gathering of friends, family, and a spirited group of groomsmen who enthusiastically led gospel songs, despite appearing noticeably tipsy.
Alcohol flowed freely, contributing to the consistently celebratory mood throughout the event. Diana’s three children were also present to witness their mother tie the knot, adding a personal touch to the informal proceedings.
A significant highlight that has since captured widespread attention online was a touching moment involving the groom’s parents.
A video that has gone viral shows Patelo’s parents walking him down the aisle. His mother, elegantly dressed in a brown gown with matching headgear, drew cheers and warm laughter as she addressed the guests with warmth and humour.
“Karibuni nyinyi wote. Kwa majina ni Caroline Akinyi Ochieng, kwetu ni Migori. Be free today,” she announced, charming those in attendance with her relaxed demeanour. Another heartwarming clip captured Patelo embracing his mother tightly, with guests enthusiastically recording the emotional exchange on their phones.
Mixed Reactions and Patelo's Defiant Response
Online reactions to the wedding were notably mixed. Some social media users lauded Patelo’s parents for their evident support and wholehearted presence.

Others, however, questioned their identity, with a few jesting that they might have been “parents for hire.”
One user quipped, “Huyu mama ndio alichachisha kuwaambia wakuwe free,” while another expressed more critical sentiments, writing, “I am ashamed on behalf of the parents.”
Despite the ridicule, many netizens applauded the parents’ unwavering presence, with one commenting, “Kitu hamjui ni mums will support their sons forever.”
Amidst the growing wave of online trolling, Patelo broke his silence. On Thursday, 31 July, he released a candid video directly addressing the negativity swirling online since his wedding went viral.
“Blame us if you must, but you will keep watching us elevate,” he declared defiantly, signalling that he and his bride had no intention of dimming their light to appease online critics.

He further hit back at haters who had taken issue with his wife and their wedding style, adding, “You will strain your eyes looking at what we are posting… and you will feel bad.”
The Arbantone artist concluded his statement with a spiritual perspective: “We are not here to beg you. Maybe we can only plead with God, not you.”
