Ojwang’s death has sparked national outrage and raised serious concerns about police brutality and accountability.

The 31-year-old teacher and blogger died in police custody after being arrested over allegations of spreading false information about Deputy Inspector General of Police, Eliud Lagat.

While police initially claimed Ojwang’ fatally injured himself by hitting his head against a cell wall, a post-mortem report revealed a starkly different and troubling account.

The autopsy showed he died from blunt force trauma to the head and had multiple injuries consistent with torture—details that strongly contradict the police narrative.

Further evidence, including CCTV footage from Mbagathi Hospital, showed that Albert was already dead upon arrival, undermining police claims that they rushed him to hospital after finding him unconscious in his cell.

Public pressure and national outrage prompted swift action. Central Police Station OCS Samson Taalam, alongside other officers and civilians linked to the case, have since been arrested and arraigned in court.

Investigations are ongoing as the family, supported by human rights organisations and legal experts, demands full accountability and justice for Albert’s death.
