Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Wednesday was seen patrolling Nairobi Streets Ahead of Planned Protests.
During the patrol, he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding peace and livelihoods ahead of planned protests across the country.
Murkomen, accompanied by the top Police Chiefs, was seen walking around the city interacting with Boda Boda people who were already in the City.
Before that, Murkomen shared updates shortly after arriving at his Harambee House office at dawn, where he was pictured alongside Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and Deputy Inspector General Gilbert Masengeli.
The CS said he was out as early as 5 a.m. to assess the situation in the Nairobi Central Business District. Photos captured him engaging with police officers and Kenyans along the streets, signaling an active response by the government to looming demonstrations.
“We have a Nation to keep and build,” Murkomen wrote.
“On my way to work this morning, I met so many Kenyans who were up early and making their way to their daily hustles. We shall do everything to protect everyone and their livelihoods.”
Murkomen also took a moment to commend the country’s security officers for their dedication and service amid rising public tension.
“I appreciate all our men and women in uniform who keep us all safe and secure,” he said.
Security has been ramped up in various parts of Nairobi and other urban centres as authorities prepare for the mass demonstrations. Despite ongoing appeals for dialogue and restraint, organisers of the protest have vowed to proceed.
