Ugandan Star Grenade Official Arrested and Released in China

Ugandan artist Grenade Official, born Deus Nduggwa, has reportedly been arrested in China for violating visa regulations.

According to Joram Mukisa, a prominent figure in the Ugandan entertainment industry who travelled with the singer, Grenade was detained for working while on a tourist visa.

The duo had travelled to China where they were offered performance opportunities, despite not holding the necessary work permits.

Mukisa revealed in a video statement that their first show in Guangzhou went smoothly, but authorities later apprehended Grenade for performing without proper documentation.

"We came to China as tourists, but since it's a business-oriented country, we received offers to perform. After our first show in Guangzhou, everything seemed fine, but unfortunately, Grenade was taken in because he performed while holding a tourist visa. Chinese laws on such matters are very strict," Mukisa explained.

He added that efforts are underway to secure the singer’s release, although the language barrier has posed challenges.

“We are trying to reach out to the relevant authorities who might assist, and we're hopeful everything will be resolved. With God’s help, we believe this will be sorted,” Mukisa concluded.

Grenade burst onto the scene with the hit single Nkuloga, a sultry track that dominated local airwaves and introduced his signature smooth vocals and magnetic stage presence.

The success of the song quickly earned him a loyal fan base, particularly among Ugandan youth. His follow-up tracks, including Wewano, Replace Me, and Babandana, further solidified his status as a hitmaker with both musical range and commercial appeal.

Over the years, Grenade has collaborated with some of the most influential producers and artists in Uganda, such as Eddy Kenzo, Sheebah Karungi, and DJ Slick Stuart.

These collaborations have expanded his reach and helped him maintain a consistent presence on radio charts and in clubs across Kampala and beyond.

Despite his success, Grenade’s journey hasn’t been without controversy. His personal life has often made headlines, but through it all, he’s remained focused on his craft.

In interviews, he has emphasized music as both his passion and his escape, a constant in a life that has seen its fair share of challenges.

As he continues to build his brand, Grenade has expressed aspirations to take his music beyond borders.
