Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has publicly advised celebrated Mugithi singer and police officer Samuel Muchoki, popularly known as Samidoh, to quit his police job and fully embrace his thriving music career.
Speaking during an interview on Kameme FM, Gachagua expressed concern over Samidoh’s recent disciplinary troubles with the National Police Service (NPS).
He argued that continuing to serve as a police officer was both risky and unnecessary for an entertainer whose music has taken him across the world.
“I told Samidoh this: Your police salary is KSh 40,000. Yet you earn around KSh 400,000 every weekend from music—that’s about KSh 1.6 million a month. Why chase KSh 40,000 in a dangerous job when your talent clearly pays more?” Gachagua posed.
He urged the musician to do the maths and choose wisely, calling him a “bright man.”
The former DP also made light-hearted comments about Samidoh’s appearance, noting that although the singer may be small in size, he’s “a very rich man” and should consider his safety and peace of mind.

Gachagua further encouraged him to stay in the United States, where he is currently on tour, promising to catch up with him during his own planned trip to the Ngemi Festival in July.
His remarks come in the wake of a disciplinary storm around Samidoh, who is accused of deserting his police duties.
An internal memo from the NPS alleges that he failed to return to his post after his leave ended on 27th May.
Efforts to trace him have since been unsuccessful, leading to the suspension of his salary and the issuing of a desertion label.
The controversy escalated after a viral video surfaced showing Samidoh joining fans in chanting “wantam”—a protest slogan often used to criticise President William Ruto’s government.
His involvement was seen as a violation of Service Standing Orders, which demand political neutrality from serving officers.
As a result, Samidoh was transferred to Gilgil, Nakuru County, pending further disciplinary action.
Despite the serious allegations, Samidoh has remained characteristically unfazed. During a recent TikTok live session from the US, where he is accompanied by his wife Edday Nderitu, the artist addressed the issue with humour and cheeky defiance.
“Can’t a man defend himself by saying he has young children or hasn’t finished building his family?” he quipped, alluding to his domestic life with Edday.
He also mocked the wording of the police memo: “Who is calling me a desert? I thought dessert is that sweet thing you eat after a meal.”

Downplaying the situation as “just a passing cloud,” the singer dismissed concerns of arrest and joked that even a wise man knows “no one fights from dusk till dawn.” He added that he had heard whispers suggesting that July was the earliest he might face arrest—conveniently after the conclusion of his U.S. tour.
