The eco-conscious Purple Tower along Nairobi’s Mombasa Road was officially unveiled on Wednesday night in a grand ceremony highlighted by Kenya’s first-ever drone light show.
The launch event, presided over by Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade and Industry, Lee Kinyanjui, drew huge crowds and halted traffic along the Mombasa Road and Expressway as hundreds of motorists and pedestrians stopped to witness the dazzling aerial display.

The skies lit up as a fleet of synchronised LED-lit drones formed animations and messages — including the words “Purple Tower” — triggering cheers, ululations, and a chorus of car horns from onlookers.
The drone spectacle, a first for the capital, crowned the official opening of the Purple Tower, an architectural feat designed with sustainability and energy efficiency at its core.
The celebration was attended by directors of Purple Dot International, including Project Lead Bharat Kerai, along with invited guests, all of whom marvelled at the innovative light show that illuminated the Nairobi skyline.

According to Purple Dot International, the Purple Tower is built to reduce energy consumption by 27%, lower water usage by 41%, and cut embodied material energy by 33%, setting a new benchmark for eco-friendly construction in the region.
CS Kinyanjui lauded the project as a step forward in aligning Kenya’s construction industry with global sustainability goals.
“The government’s ambition is to mainstream eco-friendly practices across all sectors. The Purple Tower demonstrates that environmental responsibility and architectural innovation can go hand in hand,” he said.

Bharat Kerai echoed this vision, explaining that sustainability was embedded in the project from inception.
“We prioritised natural lighting and ventilation in our design to significantly reduce electricity consumption,” he said.
The launch of Purple Tower — and the historic drone show that accompanied it — signalled a defining moment for Nairobi’s skyline and Kenya’s commitment to greener urban development.
