Kenyan rapper Stivo Simple Boy has opened up about past clout-chasing tactics during his time under his former manager.
This revelation comes just days after his former manager publicly confirmed that he is no longer managing the rapper.
In an interview with Oga Obinna, Stivo admitted that some of the stunts they pulled—such as claiming he had been gifted a Mazda Demio—were staged purely for publicity.
“Hio gari nilisema nimepewa na kampuni ilikuwa ni kipindi tu,” he confessed, meaning: “The car I said I had been gifted by a company was just clout-chasing.”
The fallout between the two appears to have been triggered by growing tensions involving Stivo’s wife. Last week, his ex manager claimed he had stepped back from managing the artist because his wife had allegedly started interfering with his music career.
“I’ve helped him get brand ambassadorial gigs here and there, and everything was going smoothly until his wife got involved. She now wants to manage all of his music affairs—deciding what he should or shouldn’t do, what time he leaves the house, and when he returns. It’s made it difficult to even film basic company adverts,” the former manager explained.

However, Stivo has strongly refuted his ex-manager’s version of events, arguing that he received very little support from him during their one-year working relationship.
Instead, he credits politician Peter Salasya for offering tangible help.
“I saw you saying that you helped me for a year. Look at my house—nothing has changed. These are the same chairs I came with from Kibera. The TV was bought by MP Salasya, the woofer is mine from Kibera,” Stivo said.
He went on to allege, “Even the bed was bought by Salasya. So what progress have you made for your artist? Online, you claim you’re my artist when you were my manager—that’s embarrassing. And now you’ve seized my social media account. Please, I ask you kindly to return my account. I’m just requesting.”
The fallout marks the end of a one-year collaboration between the rapper and his now-former manager, bringing to light the challenges and complications artists often face behind the scenes in the entertainment industry.
