Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has officially launched a new political party, the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
The launch was conducted on May 15, 2025. Gachagua emphasized that the party will provide a strong opposition to the present Kenya Kwanza government, maintaining that it would "shake the political landscape."
Speaking to the party secretariat in Lavington, Nairobi, Gachagua said he has been at his home for the last 6 months holding consultations geared towards molding his political party.

He noted that his party has been designed on the background of the need to provide improved leadership to Kenyans and raise them above the historic challenges of bad governance.
The creation of the DCP follows Rigathi Gachagua's October 2024 impeachment, which he says left the Mt Kenya region without a political vehicle.
He likened the experience to driving to a wedding in a hired car that was dropped off at the river, citing the importance of the people having their own political platform.
The party will be structured to have temporary officials from various counties, such as an organizing secretary from Machakos and a deputy party leader from Kakamega.

Gachagua has also expressed interest in involving Generation Z in the party leadership.
He plans to nominate a Gen Z individual to be his deputy party leader for the representation of the youth.
He has also expressed a desire to consult with opposition leader Raila Odinga so that he can learn about how to have a strong political party by emulating Odinga's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), which has survived and thrived.
He explained that the DCP party does not have favorite candidates and will lay emphasis on voices of Kenyans, hence the party slogan "Skiza Wakenya" translating to "Listen to Kenyans."
The launch of the DCP is a great achievement in Kenya's politics, with Gachagua setting the party on a solid foundation before the 2027 general elections.
