Over the weekend, Abel Mutua won big in Nigeria after taking home two awards from the just-concluded Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards (AMVCAs).

Mutua won best writing in the film 'Untying Kanbtai' and Best Indigenous Language in 'Makosa NI Yangu.'

Taking to social media, Mutua thanked his supporters.

"Four years ago, thanks to your unwavering support, we started this film journey. These right here are the fruits of your labour. A true depiction of The Wakurugenzi Effect. 2 nominations both converted into wins. Our region’s flag is up high. Thank you very much @africamagic. Through you, Africa gets to know that The East has something to offer.

For Untying Kantai I’d like to personally thank the Phil-It Think tank. You’re the reason the trophy is coming to Nairobi. My fellow writers @mercymutisya_ and @directorkenji. Your pen game is out of this world. @shigwanshiqo @dennismugooj your amazing ideas made the show what it became. @phil_director @michaelsmallzmunyoki and @directorkenji our super directors. Thank you for seeing the project through from the writing room to the screen. The entire cast and @philitproductions crew… You delivered exceptionally well. Barikiweni sana.

For Makosa ni yangu I’m sending a massive shout out To the cast, your performances brought truth and soul to the screen. You carried this story with such grace and power that audiences across the continent felt every moment. @pambo_mel @pascaltokodi @miss_brenda_michelle @qamuyubeats @just_obra, The entire Support Cast and Extras, you mean a great deal to us.

To the crew, under the leadership of @denise_madamproducer, @mkay_m_, @michaelsmallzmunyoki and @mohazain52 you guys outdid yourselves. From pre to post — you are the silent engines that made this machine move. From sleepless nights to last-minute fixes, you showed what it means to be the backbone of greatness.

This win is ours. Every light cue, every scene, every take — it all led to this moment. You are the epitome of excellence, and we are honored to have built this with you.

Asanteni sana. Let’s keep telling our stories. The world is watching.
