As Kenyans continue to mourn the death of veteran radio personality Edward Kwach, his family has announced plans for a fundraiser to honour his memory and ensure a dignified send-off.
The news was shared by close friend and fellow media personality Nick Odhiambo, who took to social media to pay tribute to the late broadcaster and encourage support for the upcoming memorial events.
“In memory of a legend! We celebrate Edward Carey Francis Kwach today and into forever. The Voice! The Man! The Legend! RIP Edward... Without You There is No Me!” Nick wrote, capturing the sentiments of many who saw Kwach as a pioneer, mentor, and one of the most iconic voices in Kenyan radio.
The fundraising events are scheduled for Monday, May 5, and Tuesday, May 6, from 5pm to 8pm at All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi.
Those unable to attend in person can contribute through Paybill number 8065131. These gatherings are expected to not only raise the needed funds but also serve as an opportunity for friends, family, colleagues, and fans to share their memories and celebrate Kwach’s impactful life.
Kwach passed away on the night of Monday, April 28, while receiving treatment for meningitis at Coptic Hospital in Nairobi. He was 44.

His death came just weeks after Caroline Mutoko, another prominent media figure, publicly appealed for blood donations to help stabilize him during his illness.
Until his passing, Kwach was a host at Standard Media Group’s Spice FM. His journey into media began in the early 2000s after a brief stint in law.
He would go on to work at several leading radio stations including Capital FM, Homeboyz Radio, Kiss FM, EA FM, Nation FM, and Urban Radio in Kisumu, where he co-hosted the breakfast show alongside Chris Okinda and Brian Oduor.
Throughout his career, Kwach was known for his eloquence, signature voice, and witty delivery. But he was also open about the challenges he faced along the way.
In a reflective letter to his younger self written in 2021, he candidly spoke about the pitfalls of fame and the personal demons he battled—particularly with alcohol and the sense of entitlement that accompanied his celebrity status.
“There are things that will happen to you during your stint at Radio Africa that will change everything... You will lose your job and you will regret it,” he wrote. Despite the setbacks, Kwach always managed to bounce back, earning commercial work and maintaining relevance in the media space.
Kwach was engaged to his long-time partner, Dee Muigai, a former model and entrepreneur. The couple announced their engagement in 2014.
