Songwriter and singer Bensoul has opened up about his relationship with fellow former Sol Generation signee Nviiri the Storyteller, a few years after they both parted ways with the label.

Speaking on KTN’s Art of Living on 1st May, Bensoul revealed that although they haven’t performed together since leaving Sol Generation, their friendship remains strong.

The artist shared that Nviiri once lived with him, but later moved to the affluent suburb of Karen after acquiring several pets.

“We’re still very good. He even came for my show on 4/20,” Bensoul said. “Back in the day, we used to live together. He stayed in the apartment above mine, but once he got many pets, he moved to a place in Karen with its own compound to accommodate him and the animals.”

Bensoul stressed that they continue to visit one another and insisted there is no bad blood between them.

Bensoul was the first artist to be signed by Sol Generation in early 2019, a label founded by award-winning international boy band Sauti Sol — comprising Bien, Savara, Chimano, and Polycarp.

A few months later, Nviiri Sande, professionally known as Nviiri the Storyteller, joined the label and quickly rose to fame following his lyrical performance in the hit track Extravaganza.

According to previous accounts, Nviiri initially worked as Sauti Sol’s videographer, capturing behind-the-scenes footage. It was Bien who, after hearing him sing, encouraged him to pursue a music career.

In April 2024, Nviiri officially announced his departure from Sol Generation, marking the end of a successful five-year tenure.

In a statement titled Unveiling a New Chapter in Musical Odyssey, Nviiri expressed deep gratitude for the support, mentorship, and platform offered by Sol Generation and its founders.

“Dear fans, friends, and fellow music enthusiasts, it is with immense gratitude and excitement that we announce the culmination of a remarkable chapter in Nviiri The Storyteller’s musical journey. After five incredible years under the nurturing wing of Sol Generation Records, we bid farewell with hearts full of appreciation for the invaluable support, mentorship, and platform provided — and the visionary force behind it, Sauti Sol,” the statement read.

Bensoul had been the first to announce his departure in April 2023, stating that he was leaving to establish his own label, Lions of Sudah.

“We’ve found a way to make a very smooth transition to me becoming independent, and I now have my own team,” he explained.

“Considering everything I’ve learnt at Sol Generation, I feel ready to manage my own empire and support other artists along the way.”

“I feel like I’m in a much better place, and I really want to do this on my own — to focus on my life, my career, and everything else,” he said during an interview with Kiss100 FM.
