What you need to know about Kashmir region

Kashmir is a region in South Asia that is claimed by India, Pakistan, and partly by China.

The area has been a source of conflict between India and Pakistan since both countries gained independence in 1947.

India administers Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, while Pakistan controls parts known as Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

In 2019, India revoked Jammu and Kashmir’s special status and split it into two union territories.

The region remains tense, with periodic violence and ongoing diplomatic disputes.
