In a bold and heartfelt tribute to the quiet strength and tireless devotion of mothers, the Thamani Awards 2025 have officially launched, casting a national spotlight on the women who shape Kenya’s homes, communities, and future.
The awards, whose name, “Thamani,” means “value” in Swahili, are not just a celebration—they are a powerful cultural statement: that motherhood matters, and it deserves center stage.
Led by Esther Wairimu Kiai, Head of Secretariat for Thamani Awards 2025, the initiative seeks to honor the many dimensions of motherhood—from leadership in the boardroom to resilience in the home, from digital influence to grassroots activism.

“For far too long, the sacrifices and contributions of mothers have been taken for granted,” said Kiai.
“The Thamani Awards are here to change that. This is about more than trophies—it’s about telling our mothers, ‘We see you. We honor you.’”
The awards span 25 categories, capturing the depth and diversity of maternal influence.
Among them are Best Mothers’ Initiative, Mental Health Champion, Innovation and Technology, Best Executive 2025, and the deeply moving Super Mum 2025, which is dedicated to mothers of children with special needs.
There’s even space for emerging voices, with categories like Emerging Community Leader and Best Social Media Personality.

“Every category is intentional,” Kiai noted. “We’re celebrating the educator shaping young minds, the artist spreading joy, the entrepreneur juggling boardrooms and bedtime stories, and the neighbor who lifts up an entire community.”
From April 15th to 20th, Kenyans are invited to nominate extraordinary mothers—friends, mentors, neighbors, even themselves.
“This is an open call to tell the stories that often go untold,” said Kiai. “The stories of women who give endlessly, who lead courageously, and who love unconditionally.”
Shortlisted nominees will be unveiled on April 22nd, ushering in a public voting period from April 23rd to May 5th.

The campaign will culminate in an elegant gala on May 11th—Mother’s Day—at the prestigious KCB Leadership Centre in Karen, Nairobi. It promises to be an unforgettable night of live performances, heartfelt tributes, and well-earned recognition.
