East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament Falhada Dekow Iman has publicly apologized following a scuffle that occurred on Tuesday within the precincts of the National Assembly, where she was caught on video in a heated confrontation with nominated ODM MP Umulkheir Harun.
The incident, which was captured live on camera and widely circulated on social media, sparked strong public reactions.
The two were seen exchanging insults before engaging in a physical altercation, as several female MPs tried in vain to calm them down.
A parliamentary security officer intervened and separated them, though tension remained high even after they were parted.
Speaking on the incident for the first time, Falhada released an official statement expressing her regret and taking full responsibility for her actions.
“What happened goes completely against the values of the institution we serve and the trust of the people who mandated us to lead. For this, I sincerely apologize,” she said, emphasizing that such an incident should never happen again.

The politician explained that the fight was triggered by a series of provocative remarks from her colleague, and although she tried to remain composed, the tense environment of the meeting overwhelmed her self-control.
“In a moment of anger, I crossed the boundaries of dignified leadership. There is no excuse for that behavior, and I take full responsibility,” she added.
Falhada stressed that political differences should not be addressed through arguments or violence but rather through dialogue and discipline.
She also mentioned that she has reflected on the matter and will use the experience as a lesson to improve herself as a leader.
“I will learn from this and recommit myself to upholding ethics, respect, and professionalism in leadership,” she said.
On her part, Umulkheir Harun released an earlier statement shortly after the incident, condemning the altercation and confirming that she had filed an official complaint with the relevant authorities.
“I deeply regret this incident and wish to emphasize that I do not support any form of indiscipline,” she stated, urging the political community to foster an environment of mutual respect.
So far, the exact cause of the altercation remains unclear, and no official action has been announced by the Parliamentary leadership.
