CORRIDORS OF POWER
A POWERFUL STATE officer appears to be in a full-blown conflict with a lawmaker. Insiders say the official has reportedly pledged to ensure the legislator, who has been a persistent thorn in his flesh, does not retain his seat in the next election. The MP has reportedly fiercely criticised the official, seizing every opportunity to attack and expose him as inept and corrupt. The officer, believed to be very liquid due to his position, has identified a politician he is already supporting to compete against the MP in the next polls. This development has reportedly exacerbated their already strained relationship, increasing tension in the county.

DID A VOCAL lawmaker from Rift Valley skip an elders meeting where he was summoned to reconcile with his governor? Well, it has emerged the man reportedly gave the meeting a wide berth, triggering condemnation from the elders. The governor and the lawmaker allegedly no longer see eye to eye. The reason behind their fallout is unclear, though some link the disagreement to political and business interests. The lawmaker has reportedly activated political activities to succeed the governor, whose term ends in 2027.

IS THE LONGEST-SERVING MCA in a cosmopolitan county behind the push for a youthful lawmaker to run for the governor’s seat? It has reportedly emerged that the ward rep, a powerful force in his constituency, has fallen out with the governor but cannot face him at the ballot because he allegedly lacks the requisite academic credentials. As a result, he has allegedly persuaded the lawmaker and promised to finance him to unseat the ‘stubborn’ governor. Insiders say the new governor has sealed all the routes the MCA used to allegedly siphon millions from the county through suspected dubious contracts.

THE UNBECOMING HABIT of county askaris allegedly collecting bribes from matatus in the Nairobi CBD has become brazen. The traffic marshals, with their law enforcement counterparts, are reportedly openly demanding and collecting Sh50 and Sh100 from nearly all matatus accessing the CBD. They are reportedly so organised that each officer has the vehicles they collect bribes from. Any slight confusion triggers bitter exchanges between the officers. Maybe it’s high time the authorities act to end the vice.
