Bonfire Adventures Managing Director Sarah Mtalii has finally spoken about the struggles she faced in her marriage with Simon Kabu and why it took her so long to walk away.
In a candid interview with TV47, Sarah revealed that despite facing difficulties, she stayed because she felt pressured by the image she had built as a role model in society.

"I saw marriage and thought it was automatic that the next family I go into would be like our family. I jumped into it with both legs. When things did not work, I felt I had to play along because I was already seen as a role model to young couples," she shared.

However, as time went on, Sarah realized she was sacrificing her own well-being to maintain a public image.

The fear of disappointing those who looked up to her kept her in the marriage longer than she should have. But in the end, she made a choice to prioritize herself.

"I realized I would die trying to inspire people and be a role model. So I said, let everyone find their own mentor. I am not going to die trying to live a double life just to appear perfect for people," she added.

A Shift in Perspective on Cheating

Sarah’s candid revelations come months after she sparked heated debates on social media with her controversial stance on infidelity.

In November 2024, while speaking on the Hey Girl podcast with Eve Mungai, she expressed a belief that most men who cheat still love their wives and rarely leave them for side chics.

"Most married men dearly love their wives. If he put a ring on your finger, made vows, and hasn’t chased you away, yet he is cheating, just know deep down he truly loves you and wants to spend the rest of his life with you," she stated.

She even pointed to politicians caught in love triangles, arguing that despite their infidelity, they still prioritized their wives when it came to major life decisions.

"They don’t leave their wives. Deep down, they love them. They put their wives’ names under their investments, not the side chics'," she said at the time.

When asked why men cheat, she attributed it to curiosity and desire. "They are just exploring. For some, it’s a fetish. They just want to see different 'things'," she explained.

Public Apology and Emphasis on Mental Well-Being

However, just a month later, in December 2024, Sarah made a dramatic U-turn on her stance, issuing a heartfelt apology to women for advising them to stay in marriages despite infidelity.

"I want to apologize for telling women to stay in marriages where there is infidelity. Wamama, tafadhali nawaomba mnisamehe. If things aren’t working, it’s better to leave while you still can," she said in a video.

Sarah now believes that prioritizing mental wellness and personal well-being is more important than maintaining appearances.
