Geoffrey Mosiria
Nairobi County Environment Minister Geoffrey Mosiria has, for the first time, addressed the root cause of his feud with Embakasi East Member of Parliament, Babu Owino.

Speaking on NTV, Mosiria revealed that the conflict between him and Owino did not start when they were leaders in different roles within Nairobi County, but rather has its roots dating back to when they were students at the University of Nairobi.

According to the county minister, their rivalry began when they found themselves competing for the position of president of the student body at the University of Nairobi.

However, Babu Owino, who is known for his long tenure as the student leader at the university, defeated Mosiria in the election. The minister claims that the election was rigged in Owino's favour.

"My feud with Babu goes back to when we were in university. Babu believes that Mosiria cannot defeat him. I contested against Babu Owino in the SONU (student elections at Nairobi University), and the votes were stolen in his favor because he was a puppet of the university's leadership. And that feud still exists," Mosiria said.

Mosiria added that, despite both of them moving away from university politics and entering different paths in Nairobi County leadership, he still feels that Owino sees him as a threat.

"Now, I am the chief officer for the environment under Governor Sakaja, and Babu is the MP for Embakasi East. But he still feels that I am a threat to him and probably feels that I may decide to run for the MP position in his constituency."

The environment officer, however, advised Owino not to worry when he sees him consulting with the youth in his constituency, as he had visited to raise awareness about environmental pollution and encouraged him to stop interfering with the county's operations.

"But I would like to tell my brother, serve your people with respect and dignity, work where God has placed you, and stop interfering with our work as environment officers by posting pictures of litter. Instead, as a leader, provide solutions," Mosiria concluded, advising Owino.
