President William Ruto at State House, Nairobi/PCS

President William Ruto on Wednesday morning received letters of credence from newly appointed ambassadors to the Republic of Kenya.

The ceremony was held at State House, Nairobi.

They include five new resident and non-resident ambassadors.

They are George Psiachas (Hellenic Republic), Ines Fors Fernadez (Cuba), Kang Hyung Shik (Korea), Mario De Azevedo (Angola) and Madam Vu Thanh (Vietnam).

“I, William Samoei Ruto, do accept your letters of credence and authorise you to pursue the interests of your government within the territory of Kenya by fostering the bond of friendship and promoting to widest possible within the law the aspirations of the peoples of our nations.

“Ambassador, congratulations on your appointment, welcome to Kenya and I look forward to working with you,” the President said.

The ceremony was attended by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, among other senior state officers and officials from the embassies represented.

It is tradition that the letter of credence is presented to the President before any envoy begins their tenure of office.

The letter of credence is presented personally by the ambassador-designate to the receiving head of state in a formal ceremony, marking the beginning of the ambassadorship.

This is the second such ceremony the President has held this year.

On January 14, Ruto received a letter of credence from the Ambassador-designate of China to Kenya, GUO Haiyan.
