Why some Kenyans don't seek official building approvals

Among the clients of the Built Environment Professionals who do not prefer (decline) to go through the official building approval process, the Built Environment Professionals believe they do so because the approval process takes too long (41.7%), the approval process is costly (40.5%) and there is rampant corruption in the approval process (34.5%).

Further, 28.6 per cent of the Built Environment Professionals believe that their clients decline to go through the official building approval process due to lack of knowledge of the approval process.
