A tale of a woman reported missing under mysterious circumstances took a comical turn when she was found safe and sound at her husband’s home.
The woman had been reported missing by her boyfriend, who filed a police report seeking help in locating her.
Following a search effort, the woman was discovered relaxing at her husband’s house, a revelation that has sparked widespread debate on social media.
It emerged that the woman had staged her own "kidnapping" with her husband’s help to swindle money from her boyfriend.
The National Police Service (NPS) released a detailed statement on Saturday evening, November 16, explaining how the suspect conspired with her husband to fake her abduction.
Another boyfriend of the woman had reported the incident to authorities, claiming the alleged kidnappers demanded a ransom of Ksh150,000.
The case quickly gained national attention, prompting the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Criminal Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) to launch a manhunt for the "victim."
Further investigations led detectives to Narok South, where they found the victim in her husband’s home. The two were subsequently arrested by police.
"On November 16, 2024, the team proceeded to Oldonyo Orok in Narok South, where the victim’s phone signal was finally traced, leading to her discovery at her husband’s home," read part of the statement by the National Police Service.
The duo has since been transferred to Nairobi, where they may face serious charges, including giving false information to law enforcement, an offense under Section 129 of the Penal Code.
Earlier in November, the story of the woman’s disappearance went viral after her husband appeared on television, narrating a sad yet suspicious account of how she was allegedly lured away by a single phone call.
