Kiambu: Woman killed, body dumped in farm

The body of a 19-year-old woman was found in a banana farm in Kiambaa area after a suspected murder.

Detectives are investigating the murder of 19-year-old Sharon Atieno, also known as Nicole, who was killed hours after leaving her house for a stroll. 

The badly mutilated body of Sharon was discovered on Friday, November 8, 2024, in a banana plantation in Banana area. 

The motive of the murder is yet to be known, police said.

Her friends said she left her residence in Thindigwa, Karuri, at 10 pm on Thursday to make a phone call.

She was also taking a walk, leaving her roommate behind. 

Hours later, her friends said they tried to reach her in vain.

It was not until the following day that the body was discovered in a banana plantation in Gachorwe village, Kiambaa.

Kiambaa Subcounty Police Commander Pius Mwathi said they are yet to make an arrest.

“Detectives are on the ground pursuing leads into the murder and we hope to make arrests soon," he said.

An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday, November 13, 2024, to determine the cause of death.

This will help police know what they are investigating.

Elsewhere in Kabarnet, Baringo County, the body od of a woman was found in a thicket after a suspected murder.

Police said the body of Gladys Jemuge was found within Kuriondonin village within Kewamoi Sublocation covered with a piece of clothing.

The body had visible physical injuries on the head, bruises on the right lower abdomen, and blood oozing from her mouth, nose, and right eye.

No arrest has been made over the weekend murder and the body was moved to Baringo County Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.

This increases to more than 100, the number of women in a trend that is unrelated.

Police say murder incidents are criminal and no gender is targeted.

Detectives say they are paying attention to all murder cases reported.

They argue they can't stop murder as such incidents are planned or committed by individuals with a motive or out of reaction.
