MPs have launched an inquiry into the death of Willis Ayieko, a senior executive at Wells Fargo who was brutally murdered under unclear circumstances.
The Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Security will conduct the probe.
The body of Ayieko was found at Mungowere stream in Yala, Siaya County on October 23.
Seeking a statement from the committee, Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi noted that Ayieko was director of human resources, where his role included overseeing investigations of high-profile cases involving the loss of colossal amounts of money and undertaking administrative action against staff found culpable.
“It is alleged that the roles played in his work may have significantly contributed to the circumstances leading to his death which investigations are yet to be concluded,” he stated.
He said it is imperative that justice is served swiftly and transparently, as the family and friends are greatly burdened by the unresolved circumstances surrounding Ayieko’s demise.
Atandi wants the committee to provide a report on the circumstances that led to the death of Ayieko.
He also wants the committee to highlight measures put in place by the Ministry of Interior and National Administration to ensure that the family of the deceased gets justice.
He further wants it to provide the timelines in which the investigations will be undertaken and when the findings will be made public.
Ayieko is now set to be laid to rest on Saturday.
He will be buried at his Ong’iende village (Bob’s ranch) at the Central Alego location in Siaya.
A funeral service, according to the family, has been scheduled for Thursday at All Saints’ Cathedral in Nairobi before the body is moved to his home.
An autopsy conducted on his body revealed that he died of head injuries.
Chief government pathologist Dr Johansen Oduor said the injuries led to bleeding to the brain.
The investigation is ongoing, with DCI officers pursuing multiple leads to determine the full circumstances surrounding Ayieko's murder.
