Maya Hayakawa celebrates her son

In March Maya was celebrating her firstborn son Amari who was turning 18 years old.

18 years!? I can’t believe it! I am so proud to be the mother of this amazing young man. I know every mother feels this way about their child, but Amari, you truly are one of a kind - sweet, humble, thankful, kind, respectful, loving, thoughtful, and responsible.

Anyone who has had the privilege of knowing you, can attest to this You are my greatest joy and my most incredible accomplishment. Every day you remind me of life’s greatest blessings. I love you so much, and I am beyond excited to see you start this new chapter of your life. As you step into adulthood, I have no doubt that you will continue to be exceptional and excel in everything, just as you always have done. This world doesn’t deserve someone as amazing as you. Always keep that heart of gold. No matter what, you will always be my baby, my best friend. I love you. God bless you, increase you, guide you, and protect you always. You have my love and blessings. Love, Mom. @amarihayakawa.

Pregnant at 16

In October 2019, Maya disclosed that she got pregnant at the age of 15 and gave birth to her son just two weeks after her 16th birthday.

She went on to say that becoming a mother at 16 changed the direction of her entire life and she is grateful that she found a best friend in her son.

“I got pregnant at 15, and gave birth just 2 weeks after my 16th birthday, and it changed the course of my entire life. I love that I gained my best friend. There may be challenges in motherhood, but no regrets. I think the girls in #TheSheWord feel the same,” wrote Ms Hayakawa.
