Shabana FC survived a spirited Mombasa United comeback to secure a dramatic 3-2 victory in a five-goal thriller at Mbaraki Sports Club.
Brian Ogutu gave Shabana the lead shortly before half-time before Kevin Omudi doubled their advantage in the 59th minute.
However, Mombasa United fought back, with Dennis Mabeya pulling one back in the 72nd minute before Waziri Junior scored the equaliser eight minutes later.
Just when the hosts appeared to have completed their comeback, Derrick Oketch struck two minutes later to restore Shabana’s lead and seal all three points in a thrilling encounter.
The victory marked Ahmed Fathi Abdalla Ibrahim’s second win of the season, while Mombasa United, under Abdulhamid Moallin, remain without a victory. They have suffered five defeats and recorded one draw, leaving them bottom of the league standings.
At William Ole Ntimama Stadium, Mara Sugar secured a valuable 2-1 victory over Migori Youth, thanks to goals from Alex Imbusia and Victor Ngume.
Imbusia opened the scoring just three minutes into the match before Philemon Nyakwaka restored parity for Migori Youth in the 22nd minute. However, Ngume put Mara Sugar back in front in the 33rd minute, and his goal proved decisive as the hosts held on to claim maximum points.
Meanwhile, AFC Leopards were held to a goalless draw by 3K FC at Moi Stadium in an entertaining encounter that saw both sides create several scoring opportunities.
3K FC nearly took an early lead through Sally Yipoh, whose effort struck the crossbar just seconds after kick-off. They were later awarded a second-half penalty after Glen Yanick was brought down inside the box by Tom Ikara. However, Yanick failed to convert from the spot, with Ikara making an excellent save to keep Leopards in the contest.
3K FC goalkeeper Edwin Simiyu was also impressive, producing a crucial save just before half-time to deny Fredrick Alushula following a well-delivered ball from Tyson Otieno. He was called into action again early in the second half, this time keeping out Kayci Odhiambo’s long-range effort.
Leopards also suffered injury setbacks, with Kayci Odhiambo and Vincent Mahiga forced off. Kelly Madada and Julius Masaba came on as their replacements.
On Friday, Jimmy Owili’s goal was enough to hand KCB a narrow 1-0 victory over APS Bomet, lifting Robert Matano’s side to the top of the league standings ahead of Matchweek Six.
However, KCB’s position at the summit could change following Sunday evening’s clash between Gor Mahia and Nairobi United, with Gor Mahia having an opportunity to reclaim top spot.
