Bruno Bunyaga of APS Bomet contests for an aerial ball with Paul Ngugi of Murang'a Seal during a SportPesa League match/HANDOUT

APS Bomet head coach Sammy 'Pamzo' Omollo has challenged his players to frustrate high-flying KCB FC in the fight for maximum points in Friday's SportPesa League clash at Police Sacco Grounds.

Omollo expects his in-form players to remain solid at the back, win the midfield battle and make their chances count against a KCB side buoyed by a 2-1 victory over Gor Mahia.

“We know KCB are a good team, especially after their win over Gor Mahia. But we have a plan and will fight for a positive result,” Omollo said.

“We must defend well, close down spaces and take our chances when they come.”

APS Bomet have conceded only two goals in five matches. They are eighth in the standings with six points after one win, three draws and one defeat.

Omollo is expected to set up his team with a strong defence and a crowded midfield before launching quick attacks. Ugandan striker Bruno Bunyaga, who scored in their 3-0 win over 3K FC, is expected to lead the attack.

“We cannot spend the whole game defending. We must also look for chances to attack and put pressure on them,” he said.

KCB are second in the standings with 10 points from five matches. They have won three games, drawn once and lost once.

Coach Robert Matano will want his players to continue their good run. In addition to beating Gor Mahia, the bankers have also beaten Mombasa United 3-1 and Mathare United 1-0. They drew 2-2 with Nairobi United and lost 1-0 to Posta Rangers.

“We have to approach this game with the same hunger we showed against Gor Mahia. APS Bomet are a tough team. We cannot take them lightly,” Matano said. “We need to move the ball well, create chances and score when they come. It will be important to stay focused throughout the match.”

Matano is expected to use a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Batshi Mambote leading the attack. KCB will look to control the midfield, move the ball quickly and use crosses from the wings to trouble APS Bomet.

However, they will be without defender Baron Ochieng', who is suspended after receiving a red card against Gor Mahia.

“We have to find the right replacement for Baron and make sure the team remains organised. We have other players who can step in,” Matano said. “Our aim is to collect maximum points. We know what is at stake, and we must do our best.”

The two teams have met twice before, with each winning once. KCB won 4-2 on December 16, 2025, while APS Bomet won 1-0 on May 6, 2026.

APS Bomet could also miss Ugandan defender Edward Mazembe, who is recovering from an injury picked up against Mathare United.
