Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) has appointed Prof. Eng. John Kipngetich Mosonik as the new chairman of its board of directors.
The appointment was made during a board meeting held on Monday, November 2, 2026, according to a statement issued by the company.
Mosonik brings more than 35 years of executive experience in the public and private sectors, with expertise spanning telecommunications engineering, infrastructure, energy and strategic governance.
He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya and a registered engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya.
His academic qualifications include a Doctorate in Business Administration in Strategic Leadership from Northcentral University in the United States and a PhD in Strategic Management from Moi University.
He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (Telecommunications) from the University of Nairobi, alongside postgraduate qualifications in digital transformation leadership, strategic focus, finance and project management from universities in Spain and the United Kingdom.
During his tenure as Principal Secretary for Infrastructure, Mosonik spearheaded the development of 6,000 kilometres of rural roads across all 47 counties.
He has also led major telecommunications and oil and gas projects and contributed to the development of national industrialisation policy.
Mosonik currently serves as Chancellor of Rongo University and Associate Professor of Business Strategy and Digital Transformation at Kenya Highlands University.
He is also a non-executive director at KenGen, where he chairs the Strategy Committee, providing oversight on the company's sustainable energy agenda and geothermal ambitions.
KenGen said his experience in engineering, infrastructure development, strategic leadership and corporate governance would strengthen the board as the company pursues its G2G 2034 strategy.
The company said it looked forward to his leadership as it seeks to strengthen its position as a leading energy solutions provider and continue delivering sustainable energy to support Kenya's development.
