Lady Bishop Kathy Kiuna has publicly defended gospel singer Mercy Masika’s upcoming marriage masterclass, encouraging her to proceed with the programme despite criticism from social media users.
In a video shared on Friday, October 30, Kiuna addressed Masika directly while speaking from the pulpit, urging her to launch the programme and ensure it was delivered successfully.
The preacher appeared unfazed by the criticism surrounding the initiative, suggesting that the opposition it had attracted should not discourage the gospel singer.
“Mercy Mugoro, you better start that class and start it well. You better start it well,” she said.
Kiuna further suggested that the criticism surrounding the programme was an indication that it was an important undertaking, encouraging Masika to remain committed to her plans.
“If you know that God is in something powerfully, look at the attack. You better start it and push very clearly,” she added.
Kathy Kiuna explains why women need mentorship.
The preacher also defended the idea of older women mentoring younger women, referencing biblical teachings that encourage women to guide others in matters concerning marriage and family.
She cited the biblical instruction for older women to train younger women, arguing that mentorship was an important responsibility within the Christian community.
“Older women are advised by the word to train the younger women. That is the word. And that’s what we need to do,” she said.

Kiuna concluded her message by declaring that her ministry was committed to raising women who could build their households.
“We are raising wise women in this house. We are raising wise women in the name of Jesus,” she added.
Mercy Masika’s masterclass sparks debate
Masika’s upcoming programme, titled Becoming a Wife Masterclass, has attracted mixed reactions since she announced it.
The seven-session programme is scheduled to run from November 21 to December 12, 2026, under Women of Light Ministry.
It aims to teach women about biblical marriage, with topics including biblical marriage principles, building relationships, intimacy and the role of women in marriage.
Masika had also announced Kathy Kiuna as one of the guest mentors participating in the programme.

However, the announcement attracted criticism from some social media users who questioned why women were being taught how to become better wives while similar programmes targeting men were not receiving the same attention.
Former Citizen TV presenter Janet Mbugua was among those who questioned the initiative, arguing that marriage should involve shared responsibility rather than placing the burden on women.
Media personality Lillian Nganga, on the other hand, defended Masika, suggesting that some of the criticism was unnecessary.
With Kiuna now publicly encouraging the gospel singer to proceed, the debate surrounding the upcoming masterclass continues to attract attention ahead of its November launch.
