Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has been named among the recipients of the 2026 Instagram Rings. The Norwegian footballer is part of a global group of 25 culture-shaping creators the platform recognises.
The annual awards scheme highlights individuals who take bold creative risks across digital media. Haaland’s inclusion puts him alongside artists, comedians, and storytellers worldwide.
What Are Instagram Rings?
Instagram first launched the Rings awards program in October 2025. The initiative acts as the platform's version of major cultural honours.
Out of Instagram's three billion monthly active users, only 25 creators receive the accolade each year. Selection does not depend on follower counts or engagement metrics alone. Instead, the program focuses on originality, cultural impact, and creative courage.
According to Instagram's official announcement: "We're excited to bring the award back for year two and honor a new wave of individuals for their creativity."
The Selection Panel
Users cannot apply or enter submissions for the award. An elite advisory panel of 14 global judges nominates and votes on the recipients.
The 2026 judging panel includes high-profile figures from fashion, film, music, and sports. Notable judges include Donatella Versace, A$AP Rocky, FINNEAS, Chloé Zhao, Mikaela Shiffrin, and Adam Mosseri.
Physical Rings and Exclusive In-App Features
Each winner receives both a physical award and exclusive digital perks on the platform.
For the 2026 cohort, Instagram partnered with American fashion designer Emily Adams Bode Aujla to craft the physical ring. The custom piece features a four-leaf clover cut from Connemara marble from Ireland.
In the app, winners receive a signature gold ring around their profile picture whenever they post a Story. This replaces the standard pink and orange gradient ring.
Recipients also gain an expanded profile backdrop colour picker, a custom animation on the like button, and a feature on the platform's spotlight discovery banner.
Haaland’s Digital Presence
Haaland was selected for combining elite sporting performance with a distinct online presence. The striker uses his Instagram account to blend football achievements, personal humour, and an engaging personality.
His profile sets him apart within sports content. Alongside Haaland, the 2026 list features British rapper Little Simz, freestyle footballer Muhammed Riswan, and comedian Kareem Rahma.
