World 1,500m silver medallist Dorcus Ewoi will face compatriot and middle-distance specialist Susan Ejore at the Kalakaua Merrie Mile road race in Hawaii on December 12.
Ewoi heads into the late-season contest with an impressive record over the road mile, having won her two races so far. Ejore, meanwhile, will be making her fourth appearance at the event as she seeks to improve on her previous results.
Ewoi made her road mile debut in 2025, winning the Boston Mile in 4:42.57. She defended her title on April 18 this year, clocking 4:29.73.
American duo Rachel McArthur (4:34.36) and Taryn Parks (4:35.05) finished second and third, respectively.
Ejore made her Kalakaua Merrie Mile debut in 2023, finishing fourth in 4:30.24. She slipped to fifth in 2024 with a time of 4:31.01 before bouncing back last year to finish third in 4:26.47.
Sinclaire Johnson won the 2025 edition in 4:21.66, ahead of Nikki Hiltz, who clocked 4:24.50.
Ewoi heads to Hawaii following a strong 2026 campaign.
She opened her indoor season with victory in the 1,500m at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix on January 24, clocking 4:01.22, before finishing eighth in the 3,000m at the Sound Invite in February.
She finished fifth in the 1,500m in 3:57.74 at the Shanghai Diamond League on May 16 and followed it with fourth place in Xiamen in 3:58.91.
She was second in the mile at the Prefontaine Classic on July 4 in 4:17.62 before taking third place in the 1,500m in Silesia on August 23 in 3:55.58. She added another runner-up finish in Brussels on September 5, clocking 3:54.72.
She was fourth in the 1,500m at the inaugural World Ultimate Championships in Budapest on September 12, finishing in 3:58.55, before taking third in the mile at the Athlos meeting in London in 4:19.84.
Ejore has had a mixed season. She finished fifth in the mile at the Millrose Games in February in 4:22.23 and third in the 3,000m at the Sound Invite in 8:37.84.
She later placed eighth in the 1,500m at the World Indoor Championships in March, clocking 4:04.05.
Her outdoor campaign proved more challenging, with eighth place in Zurich, fifth in Serbia and 12th at the Palio Città della Quercia meeting in Italy.
Ejore most recently competed in the road mile at the New Balance Fifth Avenue Mile in New York on September 13, finishing sixth in 4:20.2.
With Ewoi boasting a perfect record over the road mile and Ejore bringing valuable experience at the Hawaiian event, the December showdown promises an intriguing battle between the two Kenyans.
