Radio Jambo has cemented its position as the king of Swahili morning radio in Nairobi.

Latest media research data from GeoPoll shows the Radio Africa Group station led the city’s Kiswahili breakfast segment in September with a commanding 17.47 per cent audience share.

The impressive figures confirm that listeners in the capital city are tuning in en masse between 6:00 am and 10:00 am for their daily dose of the popular Patanisho segment, news, sports, current affairs, and talk shows.

Dominating the Morning Slot

Breakfast programming remains the most competitive airtime on Kenyan radio. Stations battle every morning to capture listeners as they wake up, prepare for work, and commute across the city.

Radio Jambo came out on top during this crucial morning window, outperforming all other Swahili commercial broadcasters in Nairobi.

How the Competitors Ranked

The GeoPoll survey highlighted a clear gap between Radio Jambo and rival stations in the capital.

Citizen Radio came second in the Kiswahili breakfast ranking with a 15.12 per cent share. Radio Maisha took third place, posting 13.47 per cent in the 6:00 am to 10:00 am slot.

Further down the ranking, Milele FM registered a 5.96 per cent share. Ghetto Radio logged 1.20 per cent, while Radio 47 recorded below 0.64 per cent in the supplied data.

The Magic Behind the Mic

Radio Jambo’s breakfast dominance is anchored by its flagship morning show, Gidi na Ghost Asubuhi.

Hosted by veteran duo Joseph Ogidi (Gidi) and former Harambee Stars head coach Jacob 'Ghost' Mulee, the programme mixes energetic commentary with sports and audience-driven discussions.

A major crowd favourite is Patanisho, the signature segment where the hosts mediate live on air to help estranged couples and relatives reconcile.

Consistent Winning Streak

September’s 17.47 per cent score follows a consistent pattern of high performance for Radio Jambo in Nairobi.

In a GeoPoll survey released for June 2026, the station recorded 1,244,643 listeners in Nairobi, holding a 16.53 per cent breakfast share in the city and 9 million listeners nationally.
