Bandari coach Charles Okere faces an early test of his possession-based approach when the Dockers take on SportPesa League leaders Gor Mahia at Nyayo National Stadium on Saturday night.
Gor have collected six points from their opening two matches and will be chasing a third consecutive victory, while Bandari sit 11th with two points after back-to-back draws.
The Dockers opened their campaign with a goalless draw against AFC Leopards before sharing a 1-1 stalemate with 3K FC. Against a Gor side that has scored five goals in two matches, Okere will be looking for greater attacking efficiency without compromising his team's defensive organisation.
“We have to be brave on the ball and trust our game. Gor Mahia are a good team, but we cannot go there simply to defend. We must be ready to compete,” Okere said.
The Bandari coach believes his players can challenge the defending champions if they remain disciplined and make better use of their chances.
“We have worked on how we want to approach this match, and the players understand what is expected of them. The important thing is to stay organised, remain patient and take our chances when they come,” he said.
Captain Andrew Juma, a former Gor Mahia defender, will be key to Bandari's efforts to contain the hosts. He says the Dockers are determined to turn their promising start into their first win of the season.
“We respect Gor Mahia, but we are going there to fight for all three points. We have prepared well, and everyone knows what we need to do,” Juma said.
He added that the team must build on its defensive discipline by becoming more clinical in attack.
“We have shown that we can compete and defend as a unit. Now we need to be more clinical and make sure we get the result we want,” he said.
Gor head into the contest with the advantage of recent form, although their last two league meetings with Bandari ended in draws: 0-0 in April and 1-1 in December 2025.
Across their wider top-flight history, Gor have recorded 20 wins against Bandari's seven, with eight matches ending in draws.
Midfielder Alpha Onyango, who scored a late winner against APS Bomet, will be among the players hoping to extend Gor's winning run.
For Bandari, Juma says the focus is on confidence and execution.
“We know the challenge ahead, but we believe in ourselves. We must play with confidence, take responsibility and give our fans something to celebrate,” he said.
