Several roads in Nairobi will be closed from midnight on Saturday ahead of the 2026 Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon on Sunday. County Traffic Commandant Joseph Chirchir said about 30,000 participants, including 1,000 foreigners, are expected at the event, prompting traffic diversions along the Southern Bypass and other major roads. Motorists from Mombasa, Lang’ata, Karen and Western Kenya will be redirected to alternative routes, with police officers and traffic marshals deployed to manage traffic. Chirchir urged motorists to plan their journeys and follow police instructions, adding that roads are expected to reopen progressively from noon, with the exercise targeted for completion by 2pm.
