University lecturers have petitioned Parliament to intervene and end their ongoing strike, now in its third week. They want the National Treasury to allocate adequate funds to facilitate the conclusion of their 2027–2029 Collective Bargaining Agreement. Lecturers under the Universities’ Academic Staff Union, UASU, have abandoned lecture halls for protests across public universities, accusing the government of failing to honour its obligations, including settling outstanding salary arrears.
