Kilifi County Governor Gideon Mung’aro has defended the county government’s failure to pay contractors, saying investigations are underway to verify outstanding debts. He said the county Treasury, working with national institutions, is auditing the claims, promising to settle genuine debts. The issue has sparked controversy following a Senate Mashinani session that exposed concerns over lack of transparency in contractor payments. However this is not the first time Mung’aro’s administration has cited ongoing verification exercises to facilitate the payment for contractors.
