Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has questioned the ability of new opposition parties to offer a credible alternative to President William Ruto ahead of the August 2027 General Election.

Mudavadi argued that political parties being formed close to the election lacked sufficient time to establish structures, develop policies and prepare their leaders for national leadership.

He urged Kenyans against gambling with the country’s future by supporting what he termed political experiments, insisting that the country needed continuity in leadership.

“We want continuity and President Ruto has already set the pace for the beyond 2030 debate. This is visionary leadership. Those forming new political parties now are lying to Kenyans. Let us not accept that kind of gamble,” Mudavadi said.

Speaking during an ACK church service in Kapsabet, Nandi County, on Sunday, the Prime Cabinet Secretary challenged opposition leaders to demonstrate their preparedness to govern rather than rely on the formation of new political parties.

“We should not second-guess the destiny of our country. Hatuwezi tukaamka na tufanye karata ya pata potea kwa uongozi wa taifa letu,” he said.

Mudavadi claimed some politicians were misleading voters by announcing the formation of political parties despite the limited time remaining before the next General Election.

“There are people who know that we have three months remaining according to IEBC, and they are going around telling Kenyans that they have formed new parties. They are misleading Kenyans," he said.

He maintained that leadership should be built through experience and a demonstrated track record, arguing that no one should expect to ascend to power without first establishing themselves.

“Even in this Church, if you want to be a leader like Bishop Korir, you will not be parachuted. It is a must you rise through the ranks to reach at the top. Those who think they will parachute leadership in the country, your parachute will tear, when you are there at the top. We want solid leadership and the President is our guide,” he said.

Mudavadi also defended Ruto’s record, saying the President had helped maintain peace and stability in Kenya, which he described as essential for economic development and investment.

“Sisi tunamuunga Mheshimiwa William Ruto mkono kikamilifu, and for a good reason. Not for political expediency but for a good reason. Mheshimiwa William Ruto amehakikisha kwamba kuna usalama katika taifa la Kenya. Tuko hapa kwa sababu kuna usalama katika taifa letu. We gather and talk because there is peace in our country,” he said.

The Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Cabinet Secretary cited conflicts in Sudan, the Middle East, Ethiopia and South Sudan as examples of the instability affecting other countries, urging Kenyans not to take peace for granted.

He called on political leaders to reject hate speech and tribalism ahead of the elections, warning against a repeat of past post-election violence.

Mudavadi expressed confidence that the 2027 elections would be peaceful, free and fair, adding that he expected Ruto to secure a second term.

He spoke during a thanksgiving service marking the 10th anniversary of an ACK church in Kapsabet, Nandi County, as leaders gathered in the Rift Valley ahead of Mashujaa Day celebrations scheduled for October 20 at Kipchoge Keino Stadium.
