Garissa governor aspirant Ali Bunow Korane has urged residents to rise above clan divisions ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The former governor urged residents to maintain unity despite their political differences and called on all eligible citizens to register as voters ahead of the forthcoming elections to enable them to exercise their democratic right.
Speaking during a fundraising exercise for Nanighi Mosque and Tahfidh Madrasa in Garissa County, Korane appealed to the different communities to remain united despite their political differences.
“Political differences should not divide us as communities. We must remain united, embrace dialogue and work together for the common good of our people, regardless of our political affiliations and ambitions,” Korane said.
The former governor also urged residents to support President William Ruto’s re-election bid, saying the region had received more development under his administration than under previous governments.
Turning to his own comeback bid, Korane said education, youth empowerment and healthcare would be his priorities if elected again.
Korane served as Garissa’s second governor from 2017 to 2022, before Nathif Jama returned to office following the last general election. His bid places his previous development record alongside his proposals for a second term.

In 2022, Korane cited the operationalisation of intensive care and renal units at Garissa Referral Hospital among his achievements, saying they enabled patients to access specialised treatment locally rather than travel to Nairobi.
He also reported the construction of early childhood development classrooms and recruitment of teachers to strengthen the foundation for young learners.
In water provision, his administration implemented the Kasha Water Supply project with co-funding from UNICEF. The project, which Korane commissioned, was intended to improve access to water in Kasha and surrounding settlements.
His latest unity appeal also echoes efforts during his governorship to accommodate different communities in county leadership.
Korane has acknowledged that his first administration had both achievements and shortcomings.
In a recent interview with The Star, he said he would apply those lessons by directing greater attention to referral and sub-county hospitals, while supporting young people to develop livelihoods beyond county employment.
At Nanighi, his message centred on unity, voter participation and the priorities he would pursue if given another opportunity to lead the county.
