Licensed firearm reported stolen during South C hardware shop burglary
Police in Nairobi are investigating the burglary of a hardware shop in South C, where a licensed firearm was reported stolen after suspected burglars gained entry through the roof.
The incident was reported on Tuesday, October 6.
According to police, workers arriving for duty at around 7:15am noticed an opening on the iron-sheet roof of the premises and alerted the owner.
The owner, a licensed firearm holder, was asked to confirm whether a firearm he had left in his office drawer on Saturday, October 3, was still there.
Upon checking, the firearm, identified as a Sarsilmaz pistol, was found missing.
Preliminary investigations by National Police Service officers who visited the scene established that the suspects had cut through the iron-sheet roof to gain entry.
The burglars also disconnected the DVR power cable, Wi-Fi power supply and RJ45 cables, apparently affecting the shop's surveillance system.
Two three-core 2.5mm flexible cables were also reported missing.
Police are investigating the burglary and the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of the firearm.
The owner was questioned as part of the investigations.
