Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has inspected the ongoing construction of the Sh861 million Kirwara-Kigio-Jogoo Kimakia/Blue Post road in Gatanga Constituency, Murang’a County, as the government steps up infrastructure development across the region.
Kindiki inspected the 26-kilometre road during a development tour of Gatanga, where he also addressed residents at a public engagement rally held at Kigio Shopping Centre.
The Deputy President said the government was committed to expanding public services and implementing development projects across the region, while maintaining cooperation with leaders from different political formations.
“I’m ready to work with leaders across the region to promote the welfare of the region. We will launch development while as well fighting the illicit alcohol in our region,” he said.
Kindiki also announced that tarmacking of the 12-kilometre Gatura-Ngere-Karangi road in Gatanga is expected to commence shortly at a cost of Sh405 million, adding to the infrastructure projects being implemented in the constituency.
The two roads form part of a wider plan to upgrade 1,285 kilometres of roads across Murang’a County to bitumen standard at an estimated cost of Sh56 billion.
Kindiki said the government was increasing the pace of road construction across the country, with additional resources expected to support infrastructure projects through the National Infrastructure Fund established under the NIF Act of 2026.
Kindiki also turned his attention to the 2027 political contest, urging residents to support the Kenya Kwanza administration and President William Ruto’s re-election bid.
“When I meet Ruto, what should I tell him? Two terms, sure? Okay, I will come again,” Kindiki said, prompting a political response from residents gathered at the meeting.
Nominated MP Sabina Chege, who accompanied Kindiki, also appealed to residents to assess political leaders based on their individual capacity as the country approaches the 2027 elections.
“My people, I want to say thank you for the support and in 2027, don’t check on the party but individual capacity,” Chege said.
Chege further said the government would continue supporting development initiatives in the region, linking the administration’s record to ongoing infrastructure projects.
Area Woman Representative Betty Maina also backed the government’s development agenda during the engagement, urging residents to continue supporting projects being implemented in the region.
She said that the Kenya Kwanza administration is delivering to the people, urging locals to shun divisive politics.
Maragua MP Mary Wamaua pleaded with the Deputy President to help fight illicit alcohol in the area.
“Deputy President, we will not forgive you if you fail to fight illicit alcohol. I know you have the potential to fight it, help us,” she said.
