A postmortem examination on the body of 48-year-old Catherine Mwende Njeri, whose family alleges she was thrown from a moving police vehicle in Kirinyaga county, has found that she died from multiple injuries to the head, chest and limbs.

The autopsy was conducted on Wednesday afternoon at the Embu Level Five Hospital mortuary by pathologist Dr Peter Ndegwa.

According to the family, the postmortem findings were consistent with injuries that could have been sustained after a fall from a moving vehicle, supporting their account of the circumstances surrounding Catherine's death on October 2.

The findings come as Catherine's family continues to call for investigations into her death and alleges that police officers were involved in the incident.

Her husband, Anthony Muturi, who also sustained injuries, claimed the couple accepted a lift from police officers while they were travelling to their farm at about 3 am.

Muturi alleged that the officers later demanded Sh1,000 before allowing the couple to alight when they reached their destination.

He claimed an argument followed after they were unable to raise the money, during which he alleged that one of the officers in the rear of the police Land Cruiser pushed him from the moving vehicle.

Muturi further alleged that Catherine was thrown from the vehicle several metres ahead of him and sustained injuries that later proved fatal.

The allegations have not been independently established, and investigations into the circumstances surrounding Catherine's death are ongoing.

The incident sparked demonstrations by local residents, who called for investigations and accountability.

Human rights activist Hussein Khalid, CEO of Vocal Africa, attended the postmortem and called for the allegations to be investigated.

Khalid questioned the circumstances under which the officers allegedly offered the couple a lift and later demanded payment, saying any claims of mistreatment should be subjected to a thorough investigation.

The family is awaiting the outcome of investigations as authorities work to establish the circumstances surrounding Catherine's death.
