Detectives in Bomet are investigating a suspected murder and suicide after a nurse and his wife were found dead at their home in Sergoit Village, Cheboin Location, Bomet East Sub-County.

The deceased were identified as Joseph Kipkorir Kirui, 46, a nurse at a county referral hospital, and his wife, Viola Cherotich, 42, a primary school teacher, police said.

Police said Kirui was found hanging from a tree next to their house at about 6 am on Sunday, October 4, 2026.

His 11-year-old son reportedly discovered the body while going outside to relieve himself and alerted neighbours, who informed the authorities.

Inside the house, officers found Cherotich lying unresponsive on the matrimonial bed, covered with clothes and bedding.

Police said the couple had a history of domestic violence.

The house was found ransacked and disturbed, while several used adrenaline vials were recovered at the scene.

Investigators also reported observing blood oozing from Cherotich’s mouth. No suicide note was recovered, police said.

The couple lived with two of their children, while two others were in boarding school, neighbours told police.

Crime Scene Investigation officers from Bomet processed the scene before the bodies were removed and taken to Longisa County Referral Hospital mortuary, where they are being preserved pending postmortem examinations.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths, with the postmortem examinations expected to provide further information.

The incident comes amid concerns over cases involving violence and deaths within families.

Meanwhile, a 20-year-old man was found dead in the Nyakoko area of North East Kano Sub-County, Kisumu County, after an incident in which police are investigating possible involvement by members of the outlawed Katalang group.

The deceased was identified as Offcan Onyango Omondi, who was reportedly attacked at about 4 am on Sunday, October 4, 2026.

Omondi’s mother received a call from a man who informed her that her son had been cut by people he described as suspected members of the group.

Omondi was reportedly rushed to Masogo Sub-County Hospital for treatment.

However, officers from Masogo Police Station and DCI Muhoroni, who proceeded to the facility accompanied by family members, found him dead about five metres from the hospital gate.

Police said the deceased had several deep cut wounds on the head, near the right eye, the left ear and fingers of his right hand.

Investigators also reported that Omondi was being linked to the outlawed Katalang group after finding a ribbon associated with the group tied around his waist.

The scene was photographed and processed by investigators.

Omondi’s body was removed and taken to Othoo Funeral Home, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.

Police have launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the death and determine who may have been involved.
