Jambojet / ScreengrabJambojet has moved to trace passengers and crew members who may have come into contact with Kenya’s first confirmed Ebola patient.
The airline said the passenger travelled on flight JM 8523 from Entebbe to Nairobi on Saturday, October 3, 2026.
“Jambojet is aware of reports concerning a guest who travelled on Saturday 3rd October on flight JM 8523 from Entebbe to Nairobi,” the airline said in a holding statement on Tuesday.
The airline said it was working closely with the Ministry of Health, Port Health Services and other relevant authorities to support the ongoing public health response.
This includes the identification and management of other guests and crew who may have been in contact with the individual.
“The health and safety of our guests, crew and staff remains our highest priority,” Jambojet said.
The airline said it would continue to provide updates as they became available.
It also urged passengers and members of the public to rely on official information from its verified social media platforms, @FlyJambojet, and relevant health authorities.
On Tuesday, the Ministry of Health announced Kenya recorded its first imported case of Ebola.
Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale said the patient is a Kenyan citizen who has lived in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for the past seven years.
“The Ministry of Health wishes to inform members of the public that it has confirmed the first imported case of Ebola,” Duale said.
He said the patient fell ill about a month ago and received treatment.
Duale said that, so far, 28 contacts of the Ebola patient have been identified, including family members and healthcare workers who attended to the deceased.
Duale said the government was also tracing 23 passengers and four crew members who were on the same flight as the deceased.
“So far, we have listed 28 contacts of the deceased, including family members and healthcare workers who attended to the deceased. We are also pursuing a further 23 passengers and four crew members who were on the same flight with the deceased,” Duale said.
Duale said Kenya had maintained a high level of alert for Ebola since the outbreak began in May 2026.
As of October 6, 2026, he said 652,584 travellers had been screened and 267 samples tested across five laboratories.
“Only one test has turned positive—the one we discussed earlier,” Duale said.
He added that 4,971 healthcare workers at both the county and national levels had been trained on Ebola response.
Duale said Kenya had also notified the World Health Organisation of the case in line with the International Health Regulations.
